UN Report: "North Korea Continues Nuclear Development with Illegal Funds"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] The expert panel of the UN Security Council's North Korea Sanctions Committee recently analyzed in an investigation report that North Korea continues to develop its nuclear and missile programs using illicit funds obtained through maritime transshipment.
The report obtained by NHK on the 2nd states, "North Korea is still producing nuclear-related materials and continues to enhance its ballistic missile capabilities and facilities to equip nuclear warheads."
It is known that North Korea has resumed coal exports, which are completely banned under UN sanctions, since March this year by using maritime transshipment methods via ships to illegally secure funds. The report also includes information that North Korea is smuggling refined petroleum products far exceeding the UN-imposed cap.
Furthermore, the report points out that although UN resolutions require all member states to repatriate North Korean workers by December last year, North Korean workers have continued to work as hotel staff, athletes, and medical personnel in various countries since then.

NHK cited the report, stating that the UN Security Council's North Korea Sanctions Committee expressed strong concern over this situation and urged all countries to fully implement sanctions against North Korea.
