According to the Fire Agency on the 31st, at around 3:18 PM that day, Firefighter Kim (28), a member of the Suncheon Fire Station Mountain 119 Rescue Team, was swept away by the valley water while rescuing a vacationer who had fallen into the water in Piagol, Toji-myeon, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do.
The fire authorities deployed a special rescue team and a helicopter, and rescued Firefighter Kim 18 minutes later, but he was unconscious at the time of rescue and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 4 PM.
The vacationer who fell into the water is still missing, and the rescue team's search is ongoing.
The accident is reported to have occurred when Firefighter Kim's safety rope broke.
