The daily new confirmed cases had dropped below 1,000 in early May but have since increased again, maintaining around 2,500 cases over the past two months without subsiding. Among Iran's 31 provinces, 15 provinces including the capital Tehran have been designated as 'red alert' areas, the highest risk level for COVID-19 spread.
