On this day, audit officers from city and provincial offices of education nationwide gathered to discuss overall operational matters such as cooperative audits among city and provincial offices of education and audits by city and province in response to COVID-19.
The ‘City and Provincial Offices of Education Audit Officers Council’ is a consultative body that discusses enhancing the substance of audits, improving the expertise of audit officers, and planning through information sharing, mutual exchange, and cooperation among internal audit organizations beyond regional boundaries.
In particular, it was decided to propose to the Ministry of Education to extend the temporary quota period for audit personnel of private kindergartens, which is set to expire by the end of this year. Since 2019, the Ministry of Education has assigned and supported 20 audit personnel temporarily to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education until the end of this year to establish transparency and publicness in private kindergartens.
However, due to the suspension of audits from May to August caused by COVID-19, the extension of personnel support period is considered inevitable, according to the opinions gathered at this council meeting.
