Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science to Hold Contest on COVID-19 Case Numbers During Chuseok Holiday
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is holding a contest to predict the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases during the Chuseok holiday based on data.
The Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency announced on the 30th that it will hold the "Data-Based COVID-19 Prediction Contest for Chuseok Preparation" to raise awareness about the globally significant COVID-19, foster a culture of data utilization, and propose various policies to prevent the re-spread of COVID-19.
The contest theme is "Prediction of the number of local COVID-19 infections in Gyeonggi Province during the Chuseok period and policy proposals to reduce infections." Anyone who is a Gyeonggi resident, a student at a university (graduate school) located in Gyeonggi Province, or an employee of a company based in Gyeonggi can participate.
Participants must use the basic data provided daily by the Gyeonggi Infectious Disease Control Support Group and any data they can collect independently to predict the number of local infections occurring in the province during the Chuseok period, and submit policy proposals to reduce the number of infections by incorporating various variables as their final output.
The total prize money is 30 million KRW, with one grand prize team, two excellence award teams, and three encouragement award teams to be selected and awarded.
Evaluation will comprehensively assess the accuracy of the modeling by comparing predicted values with actual confirmed cases, the appropriateness of the analysis process, and the effectiveness of the policy proposals.
Applications are open from the 30th of this month until September 25. For more details, please refer to EGBiz (www.egbiz.or.kr).
