Seongnam City Initiates Maintenance of Ownerless Signboards
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is promoting the maintenance of ownerless old and dangerous signs to prevent safety accidents.
The maintenance targets are signs left unattended without any action due to store closures, business relocations, etc., and signs that are severely damaged and pose a risk of falling accidents.
If the building owner or proprietor submits a demolition consent form to the local administrative welfare center or the district office's architecture department, the signs will be inspected on-site and demolished free of charge.
Yoon Nam-yeop, head of the city's architecture department, said, "Although it is the advertiser's responsibility to remove signs when stores close or relocate, we have decided to demolish them free of charge to prevent safety accidents," adding, "We will do our best to create a pleasant and safe urban environment."
