Government Appoints Former Geneva Ambassador Choi Seok-young as Economic and Trade Ambassador
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The government announced on the 28th that it has appointed Choi Seok-young, a senior advisor at the law firm Kwangjang who previously served as Ambassador to Geneva, as the Economic and Trade Ambassador, a special envoy position supporting economic and trade diplomatic activities.
The special envoy ambassador system grants the ambassador title to private sector figures with expertise and recognition in various fields to utilize them in government diplomatic activities, with a term of one year.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Economic and Trade Ambassador Choi Seok-young served as Ambassador to Geneva from 2012 to 2015, handling key economic and trade diplomatic duties, and is expected to continue contributing to the enhancement of national interests based on his expertise and personal network in related fields.

Additionally, leveraging his experience as Ambassador to Geneva, he plans to offer election strategy advice and support activities for Yoo Myung-hee, the Chief Negotiator for Trade, who is a candidate for the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
