111 Children Confirmed with COVID-19 After May: "6 out of 10 Cases Are Family Transmissions"

On the 2nd, a student at Daejeon Cheondong Elementary School in Cheondong, Dong-gu, Daejeon City, is undergoing a test for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 28th that a total of 111 children aged 3 to 18 have been infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from May until recently. This figure is based on patients infected within the domestic community, excluding those presumed to have been imported from overseas.
By age group, there were 18 preschool children aged 3 to 6, 47 aged 7 to 12, 23 aged 13 to 15, and 23 aged 16 to 18. By route of infection, transmission among family members accounted for more than 60%, with 67 cases. Infections from academies, study materials, and private tutoring followed with 18 cases. Nine cases were infected at multi-use facilities such as PC rooms, karaoke rooms, religious facilities, and restaurants.
Additionally, there were 2 confirmed child cases infected through childcare teachers, and 1 case each through friends and neighbors. The only case presumed to have been transmitted within a school was at Cheondong Elementary School in Daejeon. Jung Eun-kyung, head of the Central Disease Control Headquarters, said at a briefing that "During the vacation period, the time spent at academies and the use of multi-use facilities such as PC rooms is increasing, raising concerns about blind spots in quarantine," urging people to adhere to mask-wearing, personal hygiene rules, and social distancing.
Meanwhile, as of 12 noon on the same day, one additional household member of a visitor related to Shinmyeong Investment in Jongno-gu, Seoul, was confirmed positive, increasing the total cases related to this cluster to 10. Regarding a gathering of acquaintances in Songpa-gu, Seoul, one contact was confirmed positive, bringing the cumulative cases to 7. In these clusters, additional cases have been confirmed through small social gatherings such as meals at home with acquaintances by index patients or contacts.
Regarding the Russian vessel docked at Sinsen Pier in Busan, one additional family member of a ship repair worker was confirmed positive, increasing the cumulative cases in the local community to 10. Among them, 8 are repair workers and 2 are cohabitants or family members.
