Road Traffic Authority's 'Mobile Driver's License Verification Service' Surpasses 900,000 Registrations
Mobile Identity Verification at 27 Nationwide Driver's License Test Centers
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Korea Road Traffic Authority announced on the 28th that the number of registrants for the 'Mobile Driver's License Verification Service' has exceeded 900,000.
The Mobile Driver's License Verification Service is the nation's first digital official identity verification service jointly developed by the Authority, the National Police Agency, and the three major mobile carriers.
The Authority became the first public institution to pilot this service starting from the 1st of this month, enabling the processing of driver's license reissuance and international driver's license issuance without a physical ID at 27 driver's license examination offices nationwide.
The Mobile Driver's License Verification Service can currently be used as a means of age verification for purchasing alcohol and tobacco at convenience stores nationwide, including CU and GS25.
To use the Mobile Driver's License Verification Service, users must install the 'PASS' app (the integrated authentication service brand of the three mobile carriers) provided by their mobile carrier.
By photographing and uploading a physical driver's license, users can register after verifying the authenticity of the driver's license information through the Korea Road Traffic Authority and National Police Agency driver's license systems, along with device ownership and possession authentication. Registration is possible only on one smartphone under the user's name through a single mobile carrier.

When used at affiliated stores, only the name, photo, and authentication QR code barcode are displayed on the main screen, protecting personal information such as date of birth and address. Additionally, blockchain technology is utilized to establish a dedicated line between the three mobile carriers and the driver's license system servers, applying end-to-end encryption to enhance security.
