Seongdong Shared Center Rooftop 'BBQ (Barbecue) Party Rental Service' Popularity
Popular Family BBQ Camping Every Friday and Saturday at the Shared Center 3rd Floor Rooftop Space Rental
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) Seongdong Sharing Center is operating a ‘BBQ (Barbecue) Party Rental’ service using idle spaces that have not been used since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), and the response from residents has been explosive, with reservations fully booked until August.
This service rents out the rooftop space on the 3rd floor of the Seongdong Sharing Center to one family group per day, allowing residents who are burdened by long-distance travel to experience a camping atmosphere right in the heart of the city.
An official from the district said, “Since last year, camping equipment has been rented out at the Sharing Center, which has been very popular among residents,” adding, “Noticing that residents prefer wide outdoor spaces rather than enclosed indoor spaces, we came up with the idea to provide a space where they can enjoy a barbecue party, which is difficult to do at home, in their neighborhood without having to go far.”
Rentals are available every Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The usage fee is 7,500 KRW per hour. When applying, various items such as kitchenware for barbecue can be used, and reusable tableware is provided instead of disposable products for environmental reasons.
Users must prepare any items not provided by the center separately.
There is also an ongoing event where residents who post photos of their use with hashtags on the Seongdong Sharing Center Facebook page receive ice cream as a dessert. Inside the attic room on the 3rd floor, a play activity called ‘Mamkaet Nori Sangja’ (Play Box to Your Heart’s Content) is prepared for children, which is very popular among family visitors.
This BBQ party, operated only during the summer period from July to August, is currently fully booked until August, and the district is considering extending the period due to the enthusiastic response from residents.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Sharing not only provides economic benefits through sharing goods, spaces, and talents but is also the starting point for connecting neighbors who have been isolated,” adding, “I hope that more residents will participate in and use the sharing culture through this project.”
