A man in his 40s caught attempting car theft in Ulsan via CCTV
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] The Ulsan Jung-gu Office CCTV Integrated Control Center and the police joined forces to apprehend a man in his 40s who attempted to steal a vehicle.
At around 2:30 a.m. on the 27th, agents A and B of the Jung-gu CCTV Integrated Control Center were monitoring the Taehwa-dong area when they noticed a man loitering around parked cars on the street.
The man was wandering through a residential area, looking around, and tried to open car doors by pulling the handles without having the keys. When the doors did not open, he quickly left the spot.
Suspicious of this behavior, the control center agents informed the on-duty police officer of the situation.
After the situation was relayed to the police via radio, three officers from the nearby Taehwa Police Substation were dispatched, but the man hid and was not immediately caught.
About 30 minutes later, when the man was spotted again on nearby CCTV, the agents reported back to the police, who arrested him in the act.
The control center agents said, "Seeing him approach the cars without keys and try to open the doors made us suspect he was a car thief. We are glad to have been able to focus and help catch the criminal on site, with the hope that the residents of Jung-gu would not suffer any harm."
