According to Wando-gun on the 27th, to wisely overcome the COVID-19 situation and satisfy the non-face-to-face cultural enjoyment needs of residents and tourists, a special drive-in theater was pilot-operated from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the 25th at the second parking lot of Sinji Myeongsashipri. A total of 386 people (120 cars) watched the recently released movie "Intruder."
Sinji Myeongsashipri Beach is about 3.8 km long, and the second parking lot located in the center can accommodate about 200 vehicles simultaneously. It has natural conditions suitable for installing a screen with the sea as the background.
As 120 cars that made reservations on a first-come, first-served basis entered from 6 p.m., all passengers underwent temperature checks and personal information verification before entry, focusing on infectious disease prevention, which drew attention.
With vehicles entering through prior reservations and on-site applications, a special performance was held using a large screen measuring 20 meters wide and 11 meters high, where the audience used car horns and headlights to cheer for overcoming the COVID-19 situation, receiving great responses.
Additionally, a survey on the program operation was conducted among viewers who finished watching the movie, and the results will be actively reflected in future policy promotion plans.
As a result of investigating 16 items including overall satisfaction evaluation, the main audience age group was found to be in their 20s to 40s, and families and couples watched together. Most respondents expressed that they were very satisfied or satisfied with the overall experience.
Other opinions included solutions to reduce long waiting times due to wind and sunset hours during regular operation, and suggestions to improve screen resolution.
Lee Song-hyun, Director of Tourism at Wando-gun, said, “By pilot-operating a non-face-to-face cultural enjoyment program to help residents and tourists wisely overcome the COVID-19 situation, it became a meaningful opportunity to possess a differentiated cultural product from other regions. We will also actively consider the option of regular operation at Myeongsashipri Beach, which has natural conditions ideal for operating a drive-in theater.”
Meanwhile, a multimedia show will be held at Myeongsashipri Beach for 10 days from the 31st of this month to the 9th of next month.
Three screens will be installed on the white sand beach to disperse viewers, and during the day, promotional videos about Wando tourism, marine healing, and the seaweed expo will be screened, along with promotions for restaurants and specialty product vendors.
Special events such as a proposal time for loved ones and birthday celebration events will also be operated.
