Jung Byung-sun "Data Sharing is Essential... Bio Digital New Deal"
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Jeong Byeong-seon, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, has called on researchers to open their research data for the Bio Digital New Deal. This is seen as a measure to address concerns raised by some in the research field regarding the disclosure of research data.
On the 27th, Vice Minister Jeong held a meeting at the National Center for Life Science Research Resources (KOBIC) of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology to facilitate field communication related to the Bio Digital New Deal. This meeting was organized to explore future directions with the main actors and demanders of the Bio Digital New Deal. The Bio Digital New Deal is a policy aimed at promoting innovation in R&D and creating new jobs through the establishment and opening of a national integrated data system for bio R&D.
At the meeting, Vice Minister Jeong encouraged active participation from researchers. To promote the 'National Bio Research Data Station' project, which is a core initiative of the Bio Digital New Deal and aims to accelerate new drug development by utilizing bio research data as big data, researchers' data must be shared. However, some concerns have been raised about opening carefully obtained data for use by other researchers.
