Seoul Jung-gu Joint Inspection of Hidden Cameras in Multi-use Facilities
Checking for Hidden Camera Installation in Multi-Use Facilities Such as Accommodation, Swimming Pools, and Subway Restrooms
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seo Yang-ho) has been conducting joint inspections with the local police station since the 10th to tackle the increasing crimes of illegal filming, especially during the summer season.
In early July, Jung-gu formed a joint inspection team with the Jungbu Police Station, the subway police unit, and the Jung-gu Safety Guardians to establish a continuous cooperation system.
The inspection team plans to continue inspections, prevention, and eradication publicity of illegal filming until September. The main targets for inspection are multi-use facilities such as lodging facilities, swimming pools, and restrooms in subway stations. Starting from the 31st, nine elementary schools in the area will also be inspected.
The inspection team uses lens-type detection equipment to thoroughly check suspicious places such as toilet seat covers, wall screw holes, power outlet holes connecting bidet power, inside of toilet paper holders, washbasins, clocks, and other attachments. They are focusing especially on locker rooms and restrooms, where illegal filming is highly likely. Suspected electromagnetic wave emission sites will be precisely checked using electromagnetic wave detection equipment.
A service for lending illegal filming inspection equipment is also provided so that facility owners or managers can conduct self-inspections.
Those who wish to request facility inspections or equipment rentals can contact the Women's and Childcare Division of Jung-gu Office or the Women and Youth Division of Jungbu Police Station to apply.
Even during normal times, the Jung-gu Safety Guardians regularly and meticulously inspect public and privately accessible restrooms in the area for the installation of illegal filming cameras. As of the end of June, the number of inspections conducted this year has reached 521.
