Gwangju City to Accept Applications for 'Excellent Children's Play Facilities' Contest Starting from the 27th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that it will present a standard model for safe children's play spaces and accept applications for facilities to participate in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's '2020 Excellent Children's Playground' contest to prevent safety accidents.
Applications can be submitted by playground management entities within residential complexes or urban parks by downloading the application form from the Gwangju city website or the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Children's Playground Safety Management System website, filling it out, and submitting it to the five districts from the 27th until the 13th of next month.
The applications collected by each autonomous district will be reviewed by the Gwangju Local Recommendation Committee, which will select three facilities to be submitted to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety by the 28th of next month.
The Local Recommendation Committee consists of five members, including the Director of the Citizen Safety Office as the chairperson and the Safety Management Advisory Group. Before the city's own evaluation, Gwangju plans to support consulting in cooperation with the districts to prepare for the central selection committee's document review and on-site inspection.
The Central Selection Committee evaluates five areas considering playground equipment safety, diverse play culture and intergenerational participation, design aiming for open spaces combined with safety (CPTED), including ▲ safety management status ▲ maintenance and operation ▲ child development linkage ▲ safe design ▲ community revitalization.
Facilities selected as 'Excellent Children's Playgrounds' will receive a certificate and certification plaque from the Minister of the Interior and Safety valid for three years and will be exempted from one mandatory safety education session.
Baek Gwang-chun, Director of the Disaster Prevention Division of the city, said, "We will support consulting for applicant facilities so that children can safely run and play in playgrounds," and added, "We plan to award the mayor's commendation to safety managers of the selected excellent facilities."
