The High-Quality Rice Distribution Activation Project is a program that supports the modernization of rice processing facilities as well as rice drying and storage facilities. Gyeongbuk Province is investing a total of 4.75 billion KRW, including 1.9 billion KRW in national funds, 1.3 billion KRW in local funds, and 1.55 billion KRW in company contributions, to foster representative rice brands by region while supporting quality maintenance and securing sales channels during the harvest season.
In this project led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, applicants who have registered as rice processing businesses (milling businesses) under the 'Grain Management Act' or agricultural cooperative organizations (Nonghyup, cooperative joint business corporations, and Nonghyup Grain) were comprehensively evaluated based on their RPC (Rice Processing Complex) project performance and self-funding capacity. As a result, four companies (five sectors) in the province were finally selected.
The selected local companies are 'Nonghyup Rice Cooperative Joint Business Corporation' in Yecheon-gun, 'Dongmyeongyeong Nonghyup RPC' in Mungyeong-si, 'Angye Hapdong RPC' in Uiseong-gun, and the Nonghyup Rice Cooperative Joint Business Corporation in Uiseong-gun. The Nonghyup Rice Cooperative Joint Business Corporation in Yecheon-gun achieved the distinction of being selected in two sectors.
Kim Jong-su, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Distribution Bureau, stated, "Although rice prices have remained relatively stable despite the COVID-19 crisis this year, we will not hesitate to support investments in RPC facilities so that rice farmers can cultivate their crops without worrying about sales channels."
