[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City is actively engaged in rescuing wild animals designated as natural monuments.
According to the Incheon Wildlife Management Center on the 24th, 304 wild animals, including endangered species, were rescued this year, of which 74 were natural monuments such as the Black-faced Spoonbill, Common Kestrel, Blakiston's Fish Owl, Owl, Little Owl, and Mandarin Duck.
Among the rescued wild animals, 108 were treated and returned to the wild, and 47 natural monuments were released back into their natural habitats.
In the case of the Blakiston's Fish Owl rescued due to eye damage from a collision, it recovered its eyesight through continuous eye drop treatment and feeding training, and was returned to its original habitat on Yeongheungdo Island.
Owls and Little Owls that lost their mothers due to accidents in the wild and were rescued also grew up in the breeding environment within the Wildlife Rescue Management Center, regained their wild instincts as mature adults, and proudly rejoined the ecosystem as members.
Currently, the center is managing 11 Mandarin Ducks, which are under the care of veterinarians, waiting for the day they can be released back into the wild.
Since the center began operations in March 2018, a total of 978 natural monuments and wild animals have been rescued, and among them, 462 treated animals have been returned to nature.
Rado-gyeong, director of the Incheon Wildlife Rescue Management Center, said, "The number of wild animals rescued, including natural monuments and endangered species, is increasing every year," and urged, "If you find a wild animal in need of help, please do not take any action on your own but contact the center."
