Tokyo Metropolitan Government Reports Over 300 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases for the First Time
Over 100 Confirmed Cases Reported for 15 Consecutive Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] NHK reported on the 23rd that the number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Tokyo, Japan, exceeded 300 on the first day of the Golden Week holiday.
This is the first time that more than 300 new confirmed cases have occurred in Tokyo in a single day.
Also, this marks the 15th consecutive day with more than 100 new confirmed cases.
Previously, Tokyo recorded more than 200 new confirmed cases for two consecutive days from the 21st to the 22nd, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases to 10,000.
Since the 17th, Tokyo has consistently recorded over 100 daily confirmed cases.
In response, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike held an emergency press conference the day before, urging people to refrain from unnecessary outings during the four-day holiday starting on the 23rd.
Governor Koike said, "We must do whatever it takes to prevent further spread," and urged, "During the four-day holiday starting on the 23rd, please avoid going out as much as possible, and especially take care if you are elderly, children, or others with weakened immune systems."

In Japan, the 23rd is Marine Day, and the 24th is Sports Day, both public holidays, which combined with the weekend on the 25th and 26th, create a four-day holiday.
