View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will conduct an on-site inspection of the Seoul Metropolitan Government regarding the sexual harassment allegations against the late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon.
Hwang Yoon-jung, Director General of the Ministry's Rights Promotion Bureau, stated at a regular briefing held at the Government Seoul Office Building on the morning of the 23rd, "We will conduct an on-site inspection of the Seoul Metropolitan Government at the end of this month."
The Ministry will review whether the Seoul Metropolitan Government has properly implemented measures to prevent sexual harassment and sexual violence in accordance with the Framework Act on Gender Equality and other related laws. They also plan to examine the handling and counseling of workplace grievances.
The Ministry is also preparing countermeasures against secondary harm. Director General Hwang said, "There is a consensus that overall, measures are needed to prevent secondary harm in our society," adding, "We are preparing guidelines and other measures."
Regarding the emergency meeting held by the Ministry last week, Director General Hwang explained, "We are preparing to establish recurrence prevention measures through consultations with related agencies to facilitate reporting of sexual crimes occurring within hierarchical and power relationships and to create conditions for victims to return to normal life."
On the same day, the Ministry will hold a roundtable meeting attended by the Minister to hear opinions from women in their 20s and 30s. Not only private sector workers but also local government officials are expected to participate in the discussion.

Minister Lee Jung-ok of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family said, "We will establish institutional measures to change undemocratic and sexually harassing or discriminatory practices in the workplace and develop policy alternatives to ensure these measures work effectively on the ground."
