On the 23rd, Samsung Display announced that it will recruit companies wishing to build smart factories in collaboration with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. The recruitment period is one month, from the 27th of this month to the 26th of next month.
Now in its third year, Samsung Display’s smart factory construction support project has supported a total of 42 partner companies to date. In the second half of this year, the third batch of supported companies will be selected and supported in building smart factories for one year.
The smart factory construction project supported by the company is a win-win program that systematizes the entire production process of partner companies to enhance manufacturing competitiveness. To this end, Samsung Display provides mentoring on manufacturing process know-how and supports system construction.
In particular, resource management operation systems such as ERP and MES for productivity improvement and quality enhancement are evaluated to greatly help improve the management structure of partner companies.
Partner companies that have received smart factory construction support from Samsung Display over the past two years have achieved a financial cost reduction effect totaling approximately 20 billion KRW as of this month. In addition, key production efficiency-related items such as process defect rate reduction and inventory cost reduction have improved by about 30-40% compared to before.
In fact, Green Optical, a manufacturer of optical components for exposure equipment, one of the core display devices, has built a smart factory since 2018 in collaboration with Samsung Display by discovering more than 20 productivity improvement-related tasks, diagnosing problems, and making improvements.
Before building the smart factory, manual processing took a lot of time, but with the introduction of the computerized management operation system transferred by Samsung Display, the defect rate decreased by 44%, and the manufacturing lead time from order to production was shortened by 38%.
Also, by applying a real-time monitoring system for each process, material input control and production history management became easier. Through this system, the inventory rate decreased by more than 40% compared to before, effectively eliminating inefficiencies and waste factors on site.
Thanks to Samsung Display’s smart factory construction, Green Optical is currently producing optical modules such as lenses, filters, and telescopes in various fields including display exposure parts, medical, security, and space astronomy, showcasing its technological capabilities to the global market.
Previously, Samsung Display has continued mutual growth with partner companies through various programs such as CrePas, a program that supports development costs up to 1 billion KRW for SMEs with technological ideas, and the operation of incentive systems for excellent partner companies by category, including the establishment of a win-win fund.
