Hanwha Techwin to Prevent COVID-19 Spread with 'AI Video Analysis'
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Global security company 'Hanwha Techwin' is launching a new video security solution utilizing advanced AI technology to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), which is spreading worldwide.
The newly introduced COVID-19 solutions consist of two types: 'Indoor Occupancy Monitoring' and 'Facemask Detection,' both applying AI algorithms independently designed by 'Hanwha Techwin.'
These solutions help prevent 'cluster infections' by managing to avoid large gatherings in limited spaces and enable fast and accurate verification of mask-wearing, which is a key aspect of COVID-19 prevention.
'Hanwha Techwin' developed these solutions to support daily quarantine measures, considering that despite various social distancing measures such as refraining from going out and banning gatherings, situations requiring unavoidable contact with others for livelihood occur frequently.
'Indoor Occupancy Monitoring' uses cameras installed at entrances to monitor people’s entry and exit in real-time, supporting management to keep the number of people staying in a specific space below a set threshold.
By preventing crowding in limited spaces, it is useful for maintaining proper distancing and preventing the spread of COVID-19. For example, if the appropriate occupancy is set to 20 people, entry is restricted from the 21st person onward through an alarm.
It is also possible to display warning messages on monitors or block the entrance itself by linking with automatic doors. Up to eight cameras can be connected, making it usable in large facilities with many entrances.
'Facemask Detection' is a function where AI cameras accurately check mask-wearing status in real-time. When the camera detects a person without a mask or wearing it improperly, it immediately notifies the administrator. It can also be linked to an audio system to play preset warning messages.
By integrating with the video surveillance system (SSM), it is easy to search footage of individuals not wearing masks, which is effective for tracking confirmed cases and contacts.
The new solutions are compatible with four types of 'Hanwha Techwin’s' latest AI cameras in the 'P Series AI Camera' lineup (PNO-A9081R, PND-A9081RV, PNV-A9081R, PNB-A9001), and users can simply add these functions through software updates and application installations.
'Hanwha Techwin' plans to provide these functions free of charge as a public service, considering the COVID-19 situation is severe not only in South Korea but worldwide.
