Yeonggwang-gun Launches 'Population Increase Promotion Activities' Targeting Businesses
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) announced on the 22nd that it recently conducted promotional activities aimed at increasing the population targeting local businesses.
The county visited Daepung EV Automobile Co., Ltd., an electric two-wheeler manufacturer located in the Daema Electric Vehicle Industrial Complex, and Daehan Green Energy Co., Ltd., a solar power generator manufacturer in the Songnim Green Tech Complex, to promote the county's overall population policies in areas such as marriage and childbirth, youth, and employment.
In particular, they focused on promoting population increase policies favored by the younger generation, such as marriage encouragement grants, newborn childcare expenses, housing costs for employed youth, and the Youth Hope Stepping Stone Savings Account, targeting new employees, which elicited a positive response.
They raised awareness of the seriousness of the local population decline issue and urged affiliated employees to actively participate in the ‘Having My Workplace Address’ campaign, encouraging them to change their addresses accordingly.
Since early this year, the county has been conducting a campaign to maintain a population of 54,000, actively promoting various customized policies related to population, marriage, childbirth, youth, and employment.
As of last month, the population of Yeonggwang-gun was 53,475, a decrease of 377 compared to the previous year. According to the population increase and decrease by city and county in Jeollanam-do in the first half of this year, only two local governments, Suncheon City and Muan-gun, showed population growth. Among the remaining 20 cities and counties, the county ranked sixth lowest in terms of population decline.

A county official stated, “It is important to have active participation and consensus among all local members, including institutions, social organizations, businesses, and residents,” and added, “We ask for active participation and interest in maintaining the population, which is the foundation of the region’s existence, so that we can achieve the county’s population goal of 54,000.”
