Uniqlo Begins Measuring Electricity Consumption by Store
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Global fashion brand Uniqlo announced that it will install a total of 102 power consumption measurement devices at 93 stores in South Korea to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This is part of efforts to systematically manage carbon dioxide emissions by store and respond to climate change.
The power consumption measurement devices will be installed at Uniqlo stores in South Korea located in department stores, marts, or shopping malls where it is difficult to measure electricity usage individually. Installation will be completed by the 16th of next month, and from September, data from all stores will be collected and analyzed to implement effective energy-saving measures.
Uniqlo’s parent company, Fast Retailing, has signed the “Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action,” which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030. To achieve this, it is making various efforts across the entire business, from raw material procurement to manufacturing, distribution, and store operations.
A Uniqlo representative said, “Uniqlo is reducing carbon dioxide emissions through the introduction of LED lighting in stores and improvements in store design. By measuring power consumption, we will digitize energy usage and seek energy-saving measures for each store, taking steps toward realizing a sustainable future.”
