Lee Jin-su, CEO of Kakao Page, "We Will Surpass Marvel's Status"
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] "We aim to become a story entertainment company that surpasses Marvel's stature in the industry."
On the 21st, Lee Jin-su, CEO of Kakao Page, introduced the company this way at the 'Super Webtoon Project' online press conference. Kakao Page is the largest intellectual property (IP) company in Korea, owning content such as webtoons, web novels, movies, broadcasts, and books.
CEO Lee explained, "For Kakao Page, securing and producing IP is the company's identity itself and the reason for its existence," adding, "We have invested over 1 trillion won so far."
He emphasized the significance of the number by stating, "We have become a company that owns 7,000 original IP titles." He added, "If the daily global customer count is 70 million, that represents 1% of the world's population," and continued, "The first stage of Kakao Page's IP business vision is to release new K-story works daily on a service accessed by over 70 million people worldwide."
CEO Lee stressed, "If we are to call Kakao Page the Korean version of Marvel, it must become a Marvel that is different from Marvel."
He added, "The strategy suited for the new era is to own dozens or hundreds of IPs that can generate hundreds of billions or trillions of won," and explained, "Kakao Page aims to become a 'Korean-style Marvel' by connecting platforms and IPs more closely and approaching readers with diverse works and tastes through flexible formats combined with capital."
