This training was organized to experience the necessity of peace to overcome division by exploring the roots of conflict and confrontation in our society through a field trip to the Yeosu-Suncheon October 19 Incident sites, which had not been properly known in history since liberation.
It is being received with even greater significance as the 21st National Assembly recently convened and the enactment of a special law on the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident, aimed at uncovering the truth and restoring the honor of victims, is being promoted mainly by local lawmakers.
Participants listened to the background and progress of the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident at the Yeosu 14th Regiment garrison, Jungang-dong rally site, and Manseong-ri memorial tower.
They also visited Suncheon Station, Jangdae Park, Dongcheon embankment, Maesan-dong, Suncheon University, and Suncheon memorial tower to experience traces of the sad history of the 14th Regiment’s uprising, which refused to suppress the Jeju 4.3 Incident, and the suppression process where many lost their lives.
