Gokseong-gun Baeksemi Wins Encouragement Award for Jeonnam's Top 10 High-Quality Brand Rice
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Gokseong Baeksemi, which gained fame as the rice personally purchased by President Moon Jae-in during this year's Lunar New Year, received the Encouragement Award at the 2020 Jeonnam Top 10 High-Quality Brand Rice Awards held on the 20th.
According to Gokseong-gun on the 20th, Jeonnam Province selects the top 10 high-quality brand rice every year to promote the excellence of Jeonnam rice.
The brand rice recommended by cities and counties is evaluated by six specialized institutions including the Agricultural Technology Institute, Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, and Health and Environment Research Institute on taste, quality, safety, and varietal purity.
With Baeksemi being selected as one of Jeonnam's top 10 high-quality brand rice, Gokseong-gun will receive a prize of 10 million won. Additionally, they will promote joint marketing with large distribution companies and online platforms together with Jeonnam Province.
Baeksemi is cultivated using 100% eco-friendly farming methods and is renowned for its unique scorched rice aroma and savory taste. Baekseong-gun has been producing Baeksemi since 2016, and through the efforts of local governments, Seokgok Nonghyup, and farmers, it has risen to become a premium rice brand in a short period.
It already won the Speaker of the National Assembly Award at the National Eco-friendly Agricultural Products Competition in November 2017, and the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award in August 2018.
Furthermore, it continued to receive awards annually, including the Bronze Prize at the 2018 Nonghyup Best Practice Competition and the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award at the 2019 Nonghyup Best Practice Competition. It has been well received by consumers, with all production from 2016 to 2018 selling out completely, and it remains popular to this day.
