[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced that 9 COVID-19 confirmed cases occurred at one day and night care facility located in Banghwa 1-dong.
On the 19th, one resident of Banghwa 1-dong was confirmed positive for COVID-19, becoming the 85th confirmed case in Gangseo-gu.
The confirmed patient showed suspicious symptoms such as fever from the 18th and underwent a COVID-19 test at Sinchon Severance Hospital located in Seodaemun-gu on the 19th, receiving a final positive result on the same day.
The district conducted an epidemiological investigation on the confirmed patient to prevent the spread of infection in the area and confirmed that the patient had used the day and night care facility in Banghwa 1-dong from the 16th to the 18th.
Accordingly, on the 19th, the district immediately carried out disinfection and closure measures for the day and night care facility and conducted proactive mass testing on a total of 92 people (44 elderly, 21 staff, 3 external instructors, 13 trainees, 1 volunteer, and 10 elderly family members) including program participants and employees.
As a result, 8 additional elderly users tested positive, while 77 elderly and staff tested negative. The remaining 7 people (5 elderly, 1 staff, 1 volunteer) are currently undergoing testing.
The 8 elderly who tested positive are scheduled to be transferred to nationally designated treatment beds, and all day and night care facility workers and users have been placed under self-quarantine.
The district is conducting an in-depth epidemiological investigation including CCTV footage and card usage history of the confirmed patients, and will disclose the infection route and detailed movement paths on the district office website and blog as soon as they are confirmed.
Self-quarantine subjects will be managed 24 hours a day on a one-to-one basis by designated dedicated staff.
Using the smartphone ‘Self-Quarantine Safety Protection App,’ compliance with self-quarantine will be checked twice a day (morning and afternoon), along with surprise phone monitoring and on-site inspections.
In addition, to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in elderly welfare facilities, the district will conduct proactive COVID-19 testing for all 580 users of 29 day and night care facilities in the area.
