Jeonbuk Province, Water Purification Plant Facility Inspection for 'Clean Water Supply'
Joint Inspection of 27 Water Purification and Intake Facilities Including Reservoirs in the Province
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] Jeonbuk Province has begun inspecting water purification facilities within the province following the spread of public anxiety over tap water due to the recent occurrence of 'tap water larvae' in Seo-gu, Incheon.
On the 20th, Jeonbuk Province announced that it will conduct joint inspections with the K-water Water Support Center on 18 water purification plants and intake facilities, as well as 27 reservoirs with a capacity of over 5,000 tons within the province.
Through this, Jeonbuk Province plans to focus on inspecting contamination activities at water sources, the operation and management status of purification facilities, cleaning of reservoirs, and disinfection equipment. If any water quality abnormalities are found, a separate team of experts will be formed to identify the cause and establish countermeasures.
Additionally, depending on the inspection results, minor and urgent issues will be immediately addressed on-site, and facilities requiring repair work rather than temporary solutions will be actively supported with provincial funds through next year's small-scale water facility improvement project.
For the 779 small-scale water facilities excluded from this joint inspection, local government inspection teams will be organized to conduct inspections. Multi-use facilities such as apartment complexes, large buildings, schools, and sports facilities will also be intensively inspected.
The Director of the Environmental Greenery Bureau of Jeonbuk Province stated, "Jeonbuk operates using a sand filtration method, and so far, there have been no cases of larvae found in tap water within the province. Since this is a period when upstream pollution sources increase due to rising summer water temperatures and heavy rainfall, we are conducting focused inspections."
