Yoon Dae-ho, a researcher at the Smart Infrastructure Laboratory, Department of Ocean Engineering, Pukyong National University (age 35), was chosen for the National Research Foundation's Academic Balance Development Support Project, securing various supports.
Researcher Yoon proposed the study titled "Stable Analysis of the Ground for Artificial Reef Installation Considering Geotechnical Characteristics" (supervised by Professor Kim Yoon-tae) and was selected as a new project.
With this project selection, Researcher Yoon will receive research funding of 50 million KRW over the next year to study the effects of reinforcement materials depending on the artificial reef installation area.
Yoon's research project was recognized for its originality in geotechnical approaches amid the scarcity of studies addressing problems arising after artificial reef installation.
An artificial reef is a structure installed on the seabed for aquaculture or marine ecosystem restoration. Depending on the installation environment, artificial reefs may sink or erode, requiring reinforcement materials to prevent such phenomena.
To this end, Researcher Yoon plans to clarify the effects of civil engineering reinforcement materials such as bamboo mats and geogrids on subsidence and scour reduction according to ground characteristics like clay, sand, and silt through various experimental studies.
Researcher Yoon said, "I hope this research will help install artificial reefs on various grounds and contribute to improving aquaculture environments and increasing fishermen's income."
