[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] The government announced that it will diligently prepare for the prolonged battle against COVID-19 based on the experience gained over six months of dealing with the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) crisis.
Kim Kang-rip, the 1st General Coordinator of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, said at a briefing held at the Government Sejong Complex on the 20th, "Based on the experience of the past six months, we will focus on efforts to thoroughly prepare for the long-term battle expected with the coronavirus."
Kim mentioned that since the first patient was confirmed domestically on January 20th this year, there have been two major 'crises': cluster infections centered around Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and cluster infections that began around the Itaewon clubs in Seoul. He explained, "The spread of infection was so severe that Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Cheongdo were designated as special management areas for infectious diseases for the first time. To prevent the spread, we introduced creative models such as mobile screening clinics in vehicles and developed our own quarantine model capable of large-scale testing and tracing."
