QR Code 1 Million Scans Per Day... "Facilities Visited by Confirmed Cases, Visitors Can Be Identified Immediately"
Last month, church members at Jungang Holiness Church in Jongno-gu, Seoul, were conducting a pilot test of the electronic entry log (QR code). The electronic entry log system was introduced to accurately identify facility visitors in the event of a COVID-19 cluster infection. Starting from this day, the system will be piloted at major churches, cinemas, karaoke rooms, and restaurants in three regions: Seoul, Incheon, and Daejeon. Photo by Kim Hyun-min kimhyun81@

The quarantine authorities believe it has been quite helpful during epidemiological investigations when confirmed cases are identified.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 20th, since its introduction on the 10th of last month until the day before, the number of facilities that installed the electronic entry log exceeded 130,000, of which 27,371 were voluntarily installed even though they were not mandatory facilities. It is a method where users receive a QR code via smartphone and leave a record upon entry; it does not leave personal information but was designed to quickly trace visitors to the facility by combining information separately if a confirmed case occurs.
The total number of entries using the issued QR codes was approximately 24,662,000, averaging about 1 million per day. There were 8 cases where it was used for contact tracing during epidemiological investigations, tracking 1,784 QR codes at that time. In Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, a list of 89 users who used the same sports facility at the same time as a confirmed case was secured, and immediate diagnostic tests were conducted, confirming all were negative. In Suwon-si, Gyeonggi Province, using user information from a PC bang visited by a confirmed case, contact information for 48 PC bang contacts who had not been identified was additionally secured, and measures such as self-quarantine were implemented.
In response to requests from local government sites, facilities without a business registration number can now register for the electronic entry log after approval from the local government. Continuous improvements are being made, such as checking facility-specific statistics during on-site inspections and implementing notification functions for facilities unused for a week. Initially, only the Naver application could issue QR codes, but it has since expanded to include the Pass app and KakaoTalk.
