13 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] It is reported that 13 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, excluding imported cases, occurred in Xinjiang Autonomous Region on the 18th.
The National Health Commission of China announced on the 19th that there were 16 new confirmed cases nationwide on the 18th, with no deaths. Among the new cases on the Chinese mainland, all 13 were reported in Xinjiang. The remaining 3 cases were imported from overseas.
Following 16 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the 17th, Xinjiang reported 13 new cases the next day, raising concerns about a large-scale outbreak.
The source of infection in the Xinjiang region has not yet been identified. Chinese authorities are conducting extensive testing targeting residents of Xinjiang and Urumqi.
On the 18th, 42 asymptomatic infections, which are not included in the official COVID-19 statistics by Chinese authorities, were confirmed.
