On the 17th, the Jeonggwan-eup Administrative Welfare Center in Gijang-gun, Busan, launched a major cleanup to assist a "case management target" who requires continuous social protection. About 10 Jeonggwan-eup staff members and volunteers spent an hour clearing the trash scattered all over the house.
The trash piled up in an area just under 8 pyeong (approximately 26.4 square meters) filled one 1-ton truck completely. They also used up about 20 large sacks they brought along.
Even in rooms reeking of discarded clothes, food waste, and human waste, the helping hands moved swiftly. The volunteers extended their passion and dedication to assist their neighbor, who is a case management target. Where the trash once filled the space, love now filled the brightened room.
The cleanup involved the Jeonggwan-eup Residents' Autonomy Committee, the Barugesalgi Movement Council, the Jeonggwan-eup Branch of the Red Cross, the Gijang-gun Saemaul Association, the Gijang-gun Volunteer Center, and individual volunteers.
The person who desperately needed their help is currently a single-person household suffering from depression and is receiving outpatient treatment at a local hospital.
A representative from Jeonggwan-eup, Gijang-gun stated, "We will continue monitoring to support the case management target’s independence." It was a rare clear day amid the gloomy rainy season.
