According to Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam on the 18th, Daebongsan Healing Valley in Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, whose opening had been repeatedly postponed due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and government orders for a full inspection of monorails, will finally open wide at the end of August.
Hamyang-gun originally planned to open in March. However, due to COVID-19, the awaited "D-day" was postponed to the end of June. Then another issue arose. When a line collapse problem occurred in the Tongyeong monorail, the government ordered a nationwide inspection of monorails, which also put the Daebongsan monorail on hold.
Currently, investigations and safety inspections are being conducted on the 3.93 km section of the monorail line, the longest in the country. So far, the Daebongsan monorail is known to have no issues, and final inspections and test runs are planned before opening.
Hamyang-gun’s Daebongsan Healing Valley is a mammoth-scale tourist destination with a total project cost of 110 billion KRW, developed in Byeonggok-myeon’s Gwangpyeong district Daebong Skyland and Wonsan district Daebong Campingland. The project got on track in 2013 when Gyeongnam Province confirmed the "Immortal Ginseng Healing Valley Project," which included monorail installation, as part of the "Mosaic Project."
Various experiential facilities where visitors can heal in nature, such as mountain-type monorails, zip lines, mountain biking (MTB) experience centers, and lodging facilities, are intricately arranged, beckoning travelers nationwide.
The monorail winding around the ridges and summits of Daebongsan offers a panoramic view of the beautiful landscapes of Jirisan and Deogyusan, which change colors with each season.
On the 15th, Hamyang-gun opened Daebong Campingland, a lodging facility within Daebongsan Healing Valley, first. Daebongsan Healing Valley will also serve as the second venue for the "Hamyang Ginseng Anti-Aging Expo" to be held next year.
A representative of Hamyang-gun Healing Valley said, "We plan to fully open Daebongsan Healing Valley by the end of August, or at the latest, early September, but if COVID-19 spreads to a serious level, we will have to reconsider the opening."
