Mercedes-Benz, Non-Face-to-Face Running Donation Event 'Give & Race Virtual Run' Closing Soon
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Mercedes-Benz's running event to promote a culture of donation, 'GIVE 'N RACE Virtual Run,' is approaching the deadline for the first 10,000 registrations on the 17th.
The 'GIVE 'N RACE Virtual Run,' accepting applications until noon on the 20th, is Mercedes-Benz's representative social contribution event where participants can donate while joining a running festival. Until last year, all participants gathered together for a running competition, but this year it will be held in a non-face-to-face format to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Participants can run at their preferred time and place while practicing social distancing during the 48-hour event period. By connecting to the GPS-based smartphone app 'Strava' and running, participants can check their own participation records and rankings. All participants will receive a sports T-shirt and sports bag engraved with the Mercedes-Benz 'GIVE 'N RACE' logo, and this year masks will also be provided.
The participation fee of 50,000 KRW per person and all additional donations made by participants will be delivered as funds for vulnerable children and adolescents through the social welfare foundation Children and Future Foundation. Since its inception in 2017, Mercedes-Benz's 'GIVE 'N RACE' donation event has accumulated over 42,000 participants and total donations exceeding 2.2 billion KRW.
The Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee explained the purpose of the event, saying, "This 'GIVE 'N RACE Virtual Run' is held in a non-face-to-face format with the belief that the spread of sharing must continue even in the difficult situation of COVID-19. Although the event is organized for each person to run separately to maintain social distance, we want to convey the message that many people practicing sharing are together in their own places."
