Seocho-gu Community Center Leading the Untact Era
Inquiries Flooding Not Only from Seoul's Districts but Also from Other Cities and Provinces for Benchmarking 'Community Centers in My Hands'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) is leading the untact era through the swift transition to non-face-to-face operation of community centers and systematic support.
The representative project is the "Community Center in My Hand," which actively strengthens untact-era tailored administration by operating over 100 online community center programs, supporting online class equipment, and establishing one-person broadcasting media rooms.
Since March, online community center programs have been operated to prevent COVID-19 infection, and thanks to enthusiastic responses from students and active participation from instructors, about 100 programs such as line dance, Pilates, musical instruments, language, and children's programs are being offered.
For students exhausted by social distancing, the "Community Center in My Hand" serves as both an enjoyable learning space and a warm communication channel.
Moreover, the district supports community centers with professional filming equipment including webcams and microphones?10 items necessary for online lectures?and has established one-person broadcasting media rooms to respond faster than anyone else in the untact era.
As a result of proactive administration turning the COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity, benchmarking inquiries related to the operation of "Community Center in My Hand" continue not only from autonomous districts within Seoul but also from other cities and provinces.
To prepare for the post-COVID-19 era and meet the increasing demand for non-face-to-face learning, the district will build an online community center operation platform (website) starting in 2021.
In preparation for similar situations such as infectious disease outbreaks in the future, the website will provide basic information related to community centers and residents' autonomy committees, as well as enable program registration, e-learning, and real-time streaming learning, further enhancing convenience for residents.
This year marks the 17th edition of the "Seocho Community Center Festival," which has established itself as a genuine resident festival, and it is scheduled to be held as an online festival in October to November for residents' safety.
It will provide an opportunity for students to fully showcase the skills they have honed through non-face-to-face classes, and active participation from students is anticipated.

Seocho-gu Mayor Eunhee Jo said, “We are overcoming the COVID crisis and preparing for the post-COVID era, and the operation of community centers is gradually changing in line with the times. We will further activate the non-face-to-face sector, minimize inconveniences caused by community center closures, and do our best to help residents regain vitality in their daily lives through emotional exchange.”
