Childcare Teacher Bites 4-Year-Old Girl's Arm Causing Injury... Investigation Launched
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] The police have launched an investigation after a report of abuse was filed, alleging that a 4-year-old child was bitten on the arm at a daycare center in Incheon.
On the 16th, the Gyeyang Police Station in Incheon announced that B (32), a mother of a 33-month-old daughter, reported to the police on the 11th that her daughter was abused by a childcare teacher at a daycare center in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon.
On the 10th, a day before the report, B noticed bruises on her daughter's arm and reviewed the daycare center’s closed-circuit television (CCTV). After confirming signs of abuse by C (38), the assistant teacher of A’s class, she reported it to the police.
According to B, the CCTV footage showed C standing the child up during nap time, scolding her, and biting her arm twice. Meanwhile, the homeroom teacher paid no attention and was only using a computer, while other children covered their ears with their hands.
B stated that the teacher initially claimed the bite was accidental during play but later changed the story to say it was disciplinary action. She also alleged that after biting, the teacher rubbed the affected area, possibly to erase the marks.
The police, upon receiving the report, have obtained and are analyzing all 24 days of CCTV footage from May 9, when A started attending the daycare, to June 10, the day before the report.
The daycare center has reportedly asked both the homeroom and assistant teachers of A’s class to resign and expressed their intention to cooperate sincerely with the police investigation.
