[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Shim Min, the mayor of Imsil County, visited the Okjeongho site to conduct an on-site inspection for the successful promotion of the Seomjingang Eco-Museum project, a key initiative of the 7th local government administration.

According to the city on the 16th, Mayor Shim visited Okjeongho to check the progress of the Seomjingang Eco-Museum project, which aims to create waterfront tourism and ecological cultural spaces, and reviewed the promotion status of the Bungeo Island Eco-Guard project.

The county is intensifying the 2nd phase of the Seomjingang Eco-Museum creation project, which builds waterfront tourism infrastructure at Okjeongho in connection with the 1st phase of the Seomjingang Eco-Museum project initiated during the 6th local government administration.

On this day, Mayor Shim visited Bungeo Island, a pride of Okjeongho, to observe the progress of the Eco-Guard project.

The county purchased a 66,000㎡ site on Bungeo Island and plans to build a visitor center, plant trees and shrubs such as pine trees, Korean chrysanthemum, daylilies, azaleas, and hydrangeas, and open a forest bathing area next year.

The Seomjingang Eco-Museum creation project, including the Bungeo Island Eco-Guard project, involves developing experiential and stay-type tourism resources utilizing the waterfront and surrounding terrain of Okjeongho, as well as establishing mountain sports experience infrastructure.

The county plans to create an ecological cultural space where people can experience nature by installing environmental education and tourism infrastructure around the scenic Okjeongho area in Unam-myeon, and will develop Bungeo Island Eco-Garden, Eco Nuri Campus, Eco Touring Route, and Emotional Tour Road.

The 2nd phase of the Seomjingang Eco-Museum project will invest 25 billion KRW over five years from 2021 to 2025 to promote development projects aimed at revitalizing the aging and stagnant local economy and tourism by building mountain sports experience facilities and waterfront tourism infrastructure.

For mountain sports experience facilities, 13.5 billion KRW will be spent to create nature-friendly experiential spaces including a curved zipline, eco rider, alpine coaster, community center, rest areas, and remodeling of Yosan Park.

For waterfront tourism infrastructure, 11.5 billion KRW will be invested to build themed parks, campgrounds, waterfront decks, suspension bridges, and skywalks to establish stay-type tourism infrastructure that harmonizes waterfront, ecology, and forests.

Mayor Shim Min said, “I will carefully oversee the overall project promotion to ensure the successful implementation of the 2nd phase of the Seomjingang Eco-Museum project following the 1st phase. We will create a tourism road connecting Imsil Cheese Theme Park and Okjeongho, making it a key tourism hub that attracts ten million tourists visiting Jeonju Hanok Village.”

He added, “Through the promotion of the Seomjingang Eco-Museum creation project, we expect a significant improvement in the quality of life for local residents who have been marginalized and struggling for over 50 years, through increased income and revitalization of the local economy.”
