Jeonju-Type Digital and Green New Deal in Full Swing... Leading Korea's New Deal Policy
Formation of New Deal Project Teams in Four Areas Including Startups and Job Stability
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Jeonju City in Jeollabuk-do is set to actively establish a digital and green New Deal promotion system to concretize the Korean New Deal policy presented as the national vision for the post-COVID-19 era.
According to the city on the 16th, to quickly and efficiently support the Korean New Deal plan that focuses on fostering non-face-to-face and eco-friendly industries such as digital and green New Deals, it plans to build a Jeonju-type digital and New Deal response system.
First, based on the government's Korean New Deal policy, the city will prepare a Jeonju-type digital and green New Deal promotion strategy covering four areas: ▲Digital New Deal ▲Green New Deal (hydrogen-centered future new industries) ▲Startup and job stability ▲Support for small and medium enterprises and small business owners.
To this end, the city plans to expand the role of the chief economic advisor overseeing Jeonju-type economic policies and form advisory groups for New Deal projects and economic vision, involving various experts to establish new economic policies.
The city will expand the chief economic advisors from two experts in corporate support and job/employment fields to three by adding a financial expert, to gather opinions and advice on Jeonju-type economic policies in each sector to be promoted in the future.
Additionally, to discover Jeonju-type New Deal projects and establish economic policies, a Digital New Deal Project Promotion Task Force (TF) composed of experts in four fields including digital and green New Deals and public officials will be formed and operated.
Furthermore, by forming an economic vision advisory group, the city will establish Jeonju’s unique economic vision to lead the post-COVID-19 era and newly design the direction of Jeonju’s economy for the future. The advisory group will consist of about 20 members including businesspeople, research institute and economic organization officials, and university professors, and a Jeonju Economic Forum involving expert groups and citizens will also be held.
In this regard, before the government announced the Korean New Deal policy, on the 1st of this month, the city announced the Jeonju-type digital and green New Deal promotion plan centered on nurturing future core talents to overcome the national crisis after COVID-19 and create sustainable sources of income as the direction for the second half of the 7th municipal administration.
Since then, the city has taken the first step toward creating the J-Digital Education Valley to nurture core talents who will lead the post-COVID-19 era and is making various efforts to build a future-oriented city, including conducting research for establishing the basic plan for the Jeonju-type smart city.
President Moon Jae-in also announced the Korean New Deal at the 7th Emergency Economic Meeting National Report Conference on the 14th, which aims to leap Korea from ▲a follower economy to a leading economy ▲a carbon-dependent economy to a low-carbon economy ▲an unequal society to an inclusive society.
The Korean New Deal’s core is to invest a total of 160 trillion won by 2025, focusing on fostering digital and green New Deals and strengthening employment and social safety nets, creating 1.9 million jobs.
