Imsil Small Business Association Urges Immediate Resignation of Undemocratic Chairman Baedonguk
"The Chairman Involved in the Incident Must Take Full Responsibility and Step Down"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Recently, small business owners in the Imsil region of Jeonbuk have called for the immediate resignation of Chairman Bae Dong-wook in connection with the controversy surrounding the Small Business Federation Pyeongchang workshop.
The Imsil-gun Small Business Federation (Chairman Lee Giju) stated in a press release on the 15th, “In a situation where small business owners are facing a wave of closures due to COVID-19, and even suicides among small business owners are occurring, the person responsible for this incident, which caused controversy by inviting a performance team for a drinking and dancing party, must take full responsibility and step down.”
They also criticized, “This incident has seriously damaged the status and honor of not only the central association but also the regional organizations,” and added, “The local members of the Small Business Federation, who have been running around tirelessly for the development of the regional small business federation and the promotion of small business owners’ rights, even putting aside their livelihoods today, are deeply distressed by this incident.”
Furthermore, they said, “This incident was forced ahead amid the severity of COVID-19, and even in the workshop where democratic opinions were raised, these were ignored, and the central chairman who forced the regional chairman into a lineup in a one-sided atmosphere bears clear responsibility.”
The federation stated, “They are even depriving regional chairmen of the opportunity to participate in the general meeting and are revising the system so that regional chairmen are appointed rather than recommended through elections, turning them into subordinates of the central chairman, creating an undemocratic and bullying-type regional organization,” and strongly demanded Chairman Bae’s resignation.
In particular, the federation urged, “We call on the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to dismiss and report Chairman Bae Dong-wook, who is engaging in undemocratic behavior and illegal acts, and to review Article 24 of the Act on the Protection and Support of Small Businesses and Article 2 of the Enforcement Rules of the Act on the Protection and Support of Small Businesses, so that the Small Business Federation can become an organization where small business owners who pay CMS fees and belong to regional federations become full members.”
They continued, “The regional members of the Small Business Federation bow their heads once again to deeply apologize to small business owners and the public for the reckless behavior at the Pyeongchang workshop,” and added, “We urge Chairman Bae and related executives, who have ignored members’ opinions and shown undemocratic behavior, to immediately resign and serve quietly to rebuild the trust of the fallen Small Business Federation.”
