The newly appointed president, who is appointed by the president upon the recommendation of the Minister of Education, will serve as president for four years from the date of appointment.
In the Kyungpook National University presidential candidate election held on the 15th, after the second runoff vote, Professor Hong received 54.76% of the votes, a majority, becoming the first-priority candidate, and Professor Kwon received 34.39%, becoming the second-priority candidate.
Nine candidates registered for this election. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic and summer vacation, the Kyungpook National University presidential election was conducted online for the first time in its history.
The number of voters on the day was 1,190 faculty members, 645 staff members, and 21,469 students. The turnout rate for the first vote was 93% for faculty, 95% for staff, and 49% for students.

Since no candidate exceeded the majority based on the actual vote reflection rate in the first vote, which started at 11 a.m. that day, a second vote was held until the evening. In the first vote, Professor Hong (32.74%) and Professor Kwon (14.88%) ranked first and second, respectively, advancing to the runoff vote.
