Government to Announce Innovation City Revitalization Plan in July: "Collaboration Among Local Governments, Universities, and Companies"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The government announced that it will prepare measures to revitalize innovation cities led by public institutions by July.
On the 15th, Ahn Il-hwan, Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, held a meeting at the Government Seoul Office to discuss the activation of innovation cities, stating, "If public institutions proactively collaborate with local governments, regional universities, and companies, they can lead vibrant innovation cities." This meeting was organized to gather ideas for regional industries and talent development centered on public institutions as the next step following the relocation of public institutions to local areas.
Vice Minister Ahn said, "The relocation of public institutions has led to visible achievements in balanced regional development, such as an increase in the population of innovation cities and the number of resident companies," adding, "Now, moving beyond that stage, if public institutions take the lead in collaborating with local governments, regional universities, and companies as the core of regional development, they can drive vibrant innovation cities."
He also stated, "The government will support necessary measures such as deregulation," and urged, "Public institutions should actively propose creative ideas to revitalize innovation cities."
