Passenger Car Restriction Traffic Induction Charge Reduced by Up to 40%
To Reduce Urban Traffic Congestion, 'Corporate Traffic Demand Management System' Implemented... Mapo-gu Supports Traffic Volume Reduction Benefits for 1,200 Facilities Over 1,000㎡ Total Floor Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) is accepting implementation plans for traffic reduction programs until the end of July to implement the ‘Corporate Traffic Demand Management System,’ which provides reductions in traffic inducement charges to companies participating in traffic volume reduction.
The ‘Corporate Traffic Demand Management System’ is a traffic demand management measure that reduces traffic inducement charges based on the performance of programs such as weekday restrictions on passenger cars, paid parking lots, and operation of commuter buses at facilities with a total floor area of 1,000㎡ or more, which reduce traffic volume.
This is part of a policy to alleviate traffic congestion in the city center and expand a low-carbon green transportation culture.
The traffic volume reduction programs eligible for reduction benefits include a total of 11 types: ▲ passenger car restrictions (5-day system, 2-day system) ▲ paid parking lots ▲ parking lot reduction ▲ parking information provision systems ▲ bicycle use environment construction ▲ parking demand management to reduce fine dust ▲ commuter bus operation ▲ shuttle bus operation ▲ business taxis ▲ shared car use ▲ and others (Public Transportation Day, carpooling).
Currently, about 1,200 facilities in Mapo-gu are subject to the Corporate Traffic Demand Management System.
Participating facilities and companies can voluntarily participate in traffic volume reduction programs and receive a 5-40% reduction in traffic inducement charges based on their implementation performance.
Passenger car restrictions offer up to a 40% reduction, commuter bus operation 15%, and shared car use 15%, among other benefits.
The district plans to determine reduction rates through on-site and document inspections quarterly from August to July 2021 and apply the reduction benefits accordingly.
Facilities and companies wishing to participate can submit their traffic volume reduction implementation plans to the Mapo-gu Traffic Administration Division by July 31 or apply through the Corporate Traffic Demand Management website.
Last year, 111 companies in Mapo-gu participated and received a total of 1.272 billion KRW in traffic inducement charge reductions.

Mayor Yudonggyun of Mapo-gu said, “Although Mapo is called a transportation hub, traffic congestion still exists in some areas. In particular, we ask for the interest and participation of many companies and facilities in the areas of Gongdeok-dong, Seogyo-dong, and Sangam-dong, where many office workers are concentrated.”
