Police Summon Former Secretary to Park Won-soon... "Unaware of Reports Related to the Complaint"
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The late Park Won-soon, former Mayor of Seoul, was investigated by the police for over three hours and then returned home.
Go Han-seok, the late mayor’s former chief secretary, was questioned as a witness from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the 15th at the Seongbuk Police Station in Seoul regarding the circumstances of Mayor Park’s death. Go was known as the last person to have a conversation with Mayor Park at the official residence on the day he went missing.
After the investigation, Go responded to reporters’ questions asking, “Did you know that Gender Special Advisor Im Soon-young reported (the accusation) to former Mayor Park, and did you go to the official residence because of that?” by saying, “I did not know.” Regarding the time of the last call with Mayor Park, he said, “I remember it was around 1:39.” When asked about the content of the call, he said, “I have already testified everything to the police, so I have nothing further to add.”
The police are reported to have investigated Go about Mayor Park’s actions and circumstances before his death. Once the investigation of Go is completed, the police plan to summon and investigate other witnesses as well.
To investigate the circumstances of Mayor Park’s death, the police are simultaneously conducting digital forensics on the deceased’s mobile phone and checking call records. The police currently have one mobile phone, a new model iPhone, found at the place where former Mayor Park died. It is reported to be locked. This phone is considered a “smoking gun” containing information related to the sexual harassment allegations against Mayor Park or his actions before death. Some expect it to provide clues to clarify whether the accusation against Mayor Park was actually leaked and, if so, who passed on the information.
However, the police drew a line by stating that the digital forensics and communication investigation are not being conducted to resolve such suspicions. A police official explained, “The investigation will be limited only to matters related to the death case.”
Separately, the police are also investigating second-hand damage both online and offline against A, a former secretary of Mayor Park. The police have added one cyber investigation team in addition to the existing Women and Youth Division to intensify the investigation. The police summoned victim A for the second time the day before and conducted an accuser investigation related to the second-hand damage.
