Launch of the Yeongdeungpo-gu Newspaper Publication Advisory Committee
Yeongdeungpo's Next 100 Years, A Historical Compilation for the Second Renaissance
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) held the launch and appointment ceremony of the 'Yeongdeungpo District Chronicle Publication Advisory Committee' on the 14th, which compiles the history of Yeongdeungpo by various sectors such as politics, administration, and culture.
The district chronicle (guji) refers to a comprehensive record book that compiles the history that occurred in the area from prehistoric times to the present.
The district aims to highlight the proud past history and the developed present through the publication of the Yeongdeungpo District Chronicle, using it as a stepping stone for the second renaissance of Yeongdeungpo toward the next 100 years, and thus is promoting this compilation project.
The district previously published a district chronicle in 1991, the first in Seoul, but the current development over the past 30 years was omitted, and most of the existing chronicle was written in Chinese characters, making it somewhat difficult for the general public to access.
Therefore, by revising the existing materials and supplementing the history of Yeongdeungpo-gu from 1991 to 2019 across various fields such as politics, administration, and culture, the district appointed advisory committee members to ensure a more solid structure and substantial publication of the district chronicle.
The advisory committee consists of a total of 41 experts with abundant knowledge and experience in various fields, as well as local activists who have great interest in Yeongdeungpo’s history and are highly trusted by residents.
The advisory committee members will be active until the completion of the district chronicle publication, playing a pivotal role including ▲suggesting the overall structure and compilation direction of the Yeongdeungpo District Chronicle ▲providing advice on Yeongdeungpo’s history, politics, economy, society, and culture ▲supporting writing materials such as oral histories and interviews in accordance with research projects.
Since March, the district has started research projects for the publication of the district chronicle, currently collecting materials, reviewing historical data, and establishing detailed plans. They will actively incorporate diverse and professional advice from advisory committee members to help produce a high-quality district chronicle.
The Yeongdeungpo District Chronicle is scheduled to be published by June next year with professional research conducted by the Seoul City University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and continuous support from advisory committee members.
After publication, it will be distributed to local schools and libraries for educational use, as well as to community centers, Yeongdeungpo Cultural Foundation, and other local facilities and autonomous districts to be used as promotional materials for the district.
Additionally, it is expected to be used as basic data when formulating future policies or establishing business plans.
One advisory committee member who attended the appointment ceremony stated, “Yeongdeungpo-gu is a region that led industrialization and democratization during the modernization process. I am honored to be able to play a role in restoring and supplementing the history and culture of Yeongdeungpo, which led the Miracle on the Han River.”
