LGU+ Communication Technology Applied to 'Ddarungi'... Easier Rental and Return
Integration of 'LTE-M1' Communication in Over 25,000 Lock Devices
Enhancing Management Efficiency and Convenience
Preventing Loss and Theft with Real-Time Location Tracking
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Uplus is integrating communication technology into Seoul's public bicycle service 'Ddareungi' to facilitate efficient management.
On the 15th, LG Uplus announced that it will provide 'LTE-M1' communication technology to approximately 25,000 Ddareungi bicycles. LTE-M1 is a wireless communication technology that transmits data using LTE frequencies. It has low power consumption, allowing it to be used for several years, and enables data transmission and reception even while moving, indoors, or underground. It is suitable for shared mobility services like public bicycles that are used outdoors for long periods without battery charging and need to reliably transmit status information while in motion.
Seoul is the first local government in Korea to adopt LTE-M1 communication technology for shared mobility devices. LG Uplus explained, "Shared bicycles equipped with dedicated terminals can provide real-time location information to prevent loss and theft, and can periodically transmit status information such as lock status, battery level, GPS, and Bluetooth status, making maintenance and repair easier."
For convenient rental and return of Ddareungi bicycles, dedicated terminals with QR codes will be installed on the rear wheels of the bicycles. These terminals function as locks. Users can easily rent and return bicycles by scanning the QR codes with a smartphone application.
