Changwon City, Full Effort to Modernize Water Supply Facilities with Smart Technology by 2024
110 Billion KRW Invested Over 5 Years... Targeting 85% Water Recovery Rate
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] The Waterworks Office of Changwon City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 14th that it plans to modernize facilities to secure stability through efficient facility management by introducing smart technology utilizing ICT technology, expand water supply, and provide clear and clean tap water.
The city will invest a total budget of 110 billion KRW over five years until 2024 to renovate aging water supply facilities such as the local water supply modernization project, smart water network management infrastructure construction project, and Yegok booster station improvement project. This will enable smart management of facilities including regional flow rate, water pressure, water quality monitoring, and maintenance management system establishment.
Through this, by minimizing leakage and achieving a water service rate of over 85%, the city aims to reduce lost tap water, cut production costs, prevent red water incidents, improve the management environment of public enterprises, and establish an optimized system for water supply facility management to stably supply healthy tap water to citizens.

Kwon Kyung-man, head of the city's Waterworks Office, said, “Once these projects are completed, citizens will be able to drink cleaner and safer tap water stably, and by increasing the water service rate, we expect to save 6 billion KRW annually, reinvest in facility improvements, and create a virtuous cycle that generates local jobs and revitalizes the economy.”
