Gwangju City Conducts Special Inspection in Areas Dense with Exam Preparation Academies
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 12th that it conducted special inspections centered on academies, including areas densely populated with civil service exam academies, over two days starting from the 11th, in cooperation with Dong-gu Office, the Education Support Office, and Gwangju Police Agency.
This joint inspection involved more than 60 officials from the city, district, education office, and police agency, forming 10 teams to inspect the areas densely populated with civil service exam academies around Gwangju civil service exam academies, where confirmed cases have recently been spreading.
In particular, inspections were completed at 158 locations, and immediate corrective actions were taken on-site for academies violating quarantine compliance.
As confirmed cases rapidly spread in the region, Gwangju designated all academies within the jurisdiction as high-risk facilities on the 5th and issued an administrative order restricting gatherings until the 15th. When operating academies inevitably, strict compliance with quarantine rules such as electronic entry logs, mask-wearing, and maintaining a minimum distance of 1 meter was mandated.
Additionally, Gwangju, together with the City Education Office, formed a metropolitan and basic academy quarantine response team to establish a cooperative system for academy quarantine guidance, inspections, and status management sharing.
Kang Young-sook, Director of the City Women and Family Bureau, stated, “To prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will continuously conduct guidance and inspections with related organizations such as the Education Office to ensure that quarantine rules are strictly followed in all academies designated as high-risk facilities.”

Meanwhile, Gwangju plans to urgently support the purchase budget for hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes for 4,744 local academies struggling to operate due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation.
