7-Year-Old Riding Bicycle in Apartment Complex Killed by Vehicle... Driver Arrest Warrant Issued
Police Request Arrest Warrant for Driver...Driver "Did Not Realize"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] A child riding a bicycle was fatally struck by a vehicle in an apartment complex in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province.
On the 10th, the Uiwang Police Station in Gyeonggi announced that they have requested an arrest warrant for A (60) on charges of causing death under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling.
According to the police, A is suspected of hitting and killing 7-year-old B, who was riding a bicycle, while driving his SUV on a road inside an apartment complex in Uiwang City at around 5:50 p.m. on the 8th.
Investigations revealed that B was riding a bicycle on a side path between apartment buildings connected to the main road within the complex and was entering the main road when the accident occurred. It was also confirmed that B's older elementary school-aged brother was nearby at the time.
Immediately after the accident, A called 119 and transported B to the emergency room, but B ultimately passed away.
During the police investigation, A reportedly stated, "I admit fault for causing the accident," and added, "I did not notice the child suddenly coming out from the left."
The police believe that A, a resident of the apartment complex, neglected his duty of care, resulting in the fatal accident.
Furthermore, considering the possibility that A might refuse to cooperate with the summons, the police applied for an arrest warrant on the same day.
