Donghaeng Sale Sees 7.6% Sales Increase Over 11 Days Compared to Last Year... Support for Struggling Farms
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 10th that during the 'Korea Together Sale' period from the 26th of last month to the 6th of this month, about 4,000 neighborhood supermarkets sold 287 tons of agricultural products to support struggling mountain farmers. This figure represents a 7.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
The Korea Supermarket Cooperative Federation and the Korea Nadle Store Cooperative Federation are conducting the 'Good Supermarket, Good Price Together Sale' in line with the Korea Together Sale period (June 26 to July 12). Around 4,000 neighborhood supermarkets are offering discounts on about 30 items of agricultural and manufactured products at prices up to 50% lower.
Typically, agricultural products have been difficult to handle in neighborhood supermarket joint sales due to issues such as delivery and storage. Accordingly, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups collaborated with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) to select items that have faced sales difficulties due to COVID-19 and support their sale at neighborhood supermarkets.
These supermarkets sold the agricultural products at prices up to 50% cheaper than consumer prices. The sold agricultural products include 82.2 tons of onions, 72.3 tons of potatoes, 43.4 tons of watermelons, 38.6 tons of cucumbers, 18.6 tons of carrots, 10.9 tons of cherry tomatoes, 9 tons of garlic, 8.6 tons of paprika, and 3.5 tons of zucchini.
